NOW SERVING AT THE FORMER VERSAGE MANSION

More than a decade after Gianni Versace was killed in front of his Ocean Drive home, tourists continue to photograph themselves outside the front gates. It's a bit ghoulish.
For the past few months, owner Peter Loftin has tried very hard to cash in on his $19 million purchase, which he now calls Casa Casuarina, by offering $50, 45-minute tours. His Casa is both a private club and very expensive hotel. I called and asked for the price of the least expensive room. The answer? $1,200 per night. Suites, I'm told, are $5,000.
But now foodies – at least those with a some bucks - can get inside. And get something besides a look at how the other half lives.
Last week, Loftin’s 1116 Ocean opened its doors with Chef Dale Ray in charge of a steak and seafood-style menu with a la carte sides such as white bean puree and braised artichokes. A bone-in rib eye is $60. A half chicken is $29. Ray’s resume includes stints with Charlie Trotter, Michel Richard of Washington, D.C.’s Citronelle and Jean-Louis Palladin of The Watergate Hotel restaurant. There are 120 seats, all of them outside.
Jon Bon Jovi found Loftin’s the first weekend it was open. Expect this place to be full of celebrities come winter.
